Help for Americans Abroad A-Z
http://travel.state.gov/a_to_z.html
Modems:
You will need a US to UK phone jack/socket.
Telephone:
The cheapest way to call home is often using a calling card. Calling cards are available at most news-agent or gas stations/ petrol stations.
Cellphone: The standard American cell phone will not work in England. You must have an international phone that can pick up the different frequency.
Videos: American videos will not work in England, English ones will not work in America; different technology.
CD's:
Will work in both countries.
Electricity:
Computers: Most have built in converters so you will only need a plug to convert from US to UK. For US hair dryers and small low-wattage appliances, you will need to purchase a Converter/Adaptor set, the converter will convert British 220/240 volts to U.S. 110 volts.
This kit is available at most electronic stores and at http://www.travel-arts.com see Foreign Electricity Converter/Adaptor Sets part #(TA-1875HL)
Weather: English weather varies from beautiful bright sunshine to misty days, so be sure to bring a good range of color if working in pastel, you will need everything from the saturated to subtle.
Avg max 21c / 70f Avg Min 11c/ 52f Avg Rain: 56 mm / 2 inches (approximately)
